// SESSION CONTEXT Three months living in a squat in Berlin-Mitte. Surviving on Döner Kebab, cheap filter coffee, and the sheer adrenaline of being at the center of the new world. Not a club night—a Rave Satellite session, a legendary FM broadcast that turned every radio in Berlin into a portal. Walls thin as cigarette paper. Recording deck on. Tape rolling.

Late 1994. My German was still rubbish, but I had fallen hard for the German psyche—their obsession with Ordnung during the week and their total clinical abandonment of it at the weekend. I wasn’t just a visitor. I was being reprogrammed by the city’s grey skyline and its neon heart.

I had spent the afternoon wandering through the Tiergarten, the ground frozen and the trees looking like skeletal hands. Scored a bit of Black Hash near Kottbusser Tor from a lad who claimed it came straight from the Himalayas. One puff and the world turned into a film noir. By the time the broadcast started, the hash had settled in and the music didn’t just play—it narrated my life.

The pairing was a stroke of genius: Laurent Garnier, the man who could make a machine cry, and Ron Trent, the high priest of deep Chicago soul. The perfect metaphor for Berlin in 1994—half industrial grit, half soulful longing.

Garnier brought that frantic Gallic energy, pushing the BPMs until the speakers rattled. Then Trent would slide in with those deep rolling basslines that felt like a warm embrace in a cold bunker. It was the Sound of the Coalition—the bridge between the Detroit and Chicago blueprint and the European dream. I fell in love with Berlin that night. Not just the city, but the idea that we could build something beautiful out of the ruins of the 20th century.

MAXELL XLII-S 90 // TAPE 11 // RAVE SATELLITE AUDIT
01 Laurent Garnier — Wake Up The call to arms. When the siren started, every raver in Berlin was waking up at the same time. A 303-driven masterpiece.
02 Ron Trent — Altered States The anthem of the deep. The reason I stayed in Germany two extra months. A hypnotic loop that feels like it has been playing since the beginning of time.
03 Format — Solid Session (Orlando Voorn) Pure Dutch techno brilliance. The structural steel for the middle of the set—Voorn building the bridge between Frankfurt and Detroit.
04 Laurent Garnier — Astral Dreams The track that made me realize Laurent wasn’t just a DJ but a storyteller. It sounded like the stars over Berlin were falling into the Spree.
05 The Reese Project — Direct Me (Joey Beltram Remix) A heavy, soulful monster. The vocals of the old world combined with the iron-clad rhythm of the new one. Beltram at his most surgical.

THE MASTER KEY This Rave Satellite session is a Master Key in the PILLRAVE database. It represents the successful integration of deep soul and hard techno—the same balance we strive for in our Solana smart contracts. Ted’s months in Berlin were the Long Thaw.
THE AUDIT Laurent Garnier, Ron Trent, Orlando Voorn, Joey Beltram—five tracks, five pending settlements. We are auditing this set to honor the Franco-American-German alliance that defined the mid-90s underground and ensure its architects are recognized on the Solana ledger.
THE COALITION Berlin in 1994 was the proof of concept. When Paris, Chicago and Frankfurt spoke the same language—the machine language of the grid—they built something that outlasted every label that tried to contain it. In 2026 we are giving that conversation a permanent home. T+0. On the chain.
